There are few artists out there who can create a sweet groove like SG Lewis. Following the release of Dusk, the first phase of three making up his debut album, SG is back with ‘Hurting’.

Premiered by Annie Mac on BBC Radio 1 this evening, the new single is the first instalment of part two of three, Dark. For his first full album, SG Lewis tracks the journey through the different phases of a night out, as he explained on social media in January.

He teams up with AlunaGeorge, the voice behind dance-floor fillers such as ‘You Know You Like It’ and ‘Automatic’, in one of the artist’s highest profile collaborations to date. Full of Lewis’ gloriously ambient electro-touch, it’s an intriguing step into the next world of the debut record.

Coining Dusk as “the warm-up for the heavier, darker things to come”, it’s clear to see that movement from the tropical ‘Aura’ with J Warner and ‘Coming Up’. It’s a new sound as the DJ and singer/songwriter continues to shift through the gears ever since releasing the likes of ‘Warm’ and ‘Shivers’ when he broke into the industry in 2015. Fans have already taken to social media to praise ‘Hurting’ with one saying, “This new song is pure GOLD”, and another, “This is what dreams are made of”.

After playing to a packed Electric Brixton in April, SG Lewis prepares to tour the USA in September and October this year, his date at Brooklyn’s Elsewhere already selling out. A good friend of pop superstar, Dua Lipa, the 24-year-old was one artist who played a set at the first ever Sunny Hill Festival in Kosovo last weekend.
