As two of musics most honest, and introspective songwriters, Lucy Spraggan and Robbie Williams have long been praised for their innate ability to create well-crafted, meaningful pop songs, that not only appeal to the masses, but also those who feel in someway lost, lonely or mis-understood.

So news that the duo are to join forces to remake Lucy’s 2020 hit ‘Sober’ comes with much excitement and anticipation…

Initially released back in the autumn of 2020, the original version of the heartfelt, tender pop ballad saw a brave Spraggan let down her guard, and share with listeners her decision to give up alcohol.

Now 5 years sober, the updated version, featuring brand new vocals from Williams, serves as something of a full circle moment for Lucy, who as a long-time fan of the ‘Angels’ singer, missed out on meeting her idol when he mentored contestants on The X Factor the year after she first auditioned.

The duo’s version of the deeply personal song, is set to be released Friday, May 3rd 2024.

“I wrote ‘Sober’about a week after I stopped drinking,” Spraggan says of the super emotive track. “I wanted to write a song that I could listen back to, whether that was in a month, six months or years, to remind me why I had made the decision to be sober.”

“I never anticipated that nearly 5 years after I’d be releasing it as a duet with an all round inspiration of mine, both personally and professionally, Robbie Williams.”

“This song and it’s music video was originally released in 2021 and the comments on Youtube are from a community of people that resonate with the lyrics about why I needed to be sober. To know that Robbie Williams resonates with the song enough to sing it with me is an unbelievable feeling, not only as a song-writer but as a person that has struggled with substance abuse.”

“This really is the highlight of my career so far and I am so thankful for all of the places that my sobriety has taken me”.

On teaming up with the ‘Balance’ singer, Williams said: “I’ve been a fan of Lucy’s since I first heard her on X Factor in 2013. That year I mentored on the show, but sadly we never got to meet. I loved ‘Sober’ the first time I heard it, and I’ve really enjoyed working with Lucy on this new version of the song.”
