Sophie Wilde's parents and grandparents played a significant role in igniting the actress's passion for performing. They supported her ambitions, but before she could commit to honing her craft, she and her father went missing after a fatal event overseas.

Although Sophie Wilde only recently broke into the film and TV industry, the young star has had extensive training in her craft. As a child, she began by taking acting classes and attended New Town High School of Performing Arts in her native city of Sydney, Australia.

She then enrolled at the National Institute of Dramatic Art. Following graduation, her first role was Ophelia in the Shakespearean stage production of "Hamlet" in 2020. The following year, she debuted onscreen in the drama series, "Eden," leading the show as Scout.

She had another starring role in the gripping 2021 mini-series "You Don't Know Me." In 2022, Sophie debuted her writing in the horror film "Talk to Me," where she played Mia. In 2023, she joined a star-studded cast in the adventure comedy "The Portable Door."

In a considerably short period, her career progresses remarkably. And yet the people who inspired her love for the arts still treat her as another valuable part of the family, leaving her fame at the door when she arrives home.

Sophie Wilde Watched Old Movies with Her Grandparents

In many of her interviews, Sophie has shown her family-oriented nature. She considers her family the "loves" of her life. She developed a passion for old films as a kid, watching them with her grandparents.

"They would take me to the theater a lot or to watch the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. They always had an impact on me, and I loved absorbing performance at a myriad of capacities," the actress recalled.

She filmed "Eden" in Byron Bay (a town in Australia) and was away from home in Elmore for three months. Although it was a major debut role onscreen, things at home did not change when she returned.

"It was so funny coming back after living alone and just being at home, and within the first half hour, there was already an argument. And I was just like, 'This is so classic. Like, nothing changes,'" she said. Nonetheless, she loves her family and thinks they are "the best."

Sophia Wilde's Parents: The Couple Gave the Actress a Bi-ethnic Identity

Sophie's father is Australian, while her mother is Ivorian. Alongside their daughter, the couple has a younger son. They lead different careers, with her mother as a counselor and her father as an abstract artist.

They've supported their daughter's ambitions to be an actress since she fell in love with the craft as a child. They have also encouraged her, who is a young woman of color, to grab opportunities that allow her a platform to advocate for racial diversity in mainstream media.

Sophia Wilde's Father Is a Well-Traveled Abstract Artist

Sophie's father, Simon Wilde, studied Law at the University of Sydney before pursuing an artistic career. He began traveling the world after graduation, and his "adventures have informed his approach to art and its underlying aesthetic," according to his website.

He committed to making art full-time in 2009, beginning with "manuscripts of poetry mounted on steel with photography and conceptual, poetry-based installations" before eventually transitioning to abstract paintings.

In October 2014, he and Sophie went "missing" in Nepal after a snowstorm swept the Annapurna region, causing an avalanche that killed dozens of people on the 14th of that month. They hadn't contacted their family since the seventh, but they eventually called, confirming they were safe and well.
